WELCOME TO THE NOVEMBER EDITION OF #WOWWOMEN. This month, Wear Oh Where has partnered up with us and together, we have embarked on a very special journey — the #JourneyToMe, which is about celebrating the self.
In this series, we chat with inspiring women of different backgrounds and ages (from the 20s to the 60s) — each one of them extraordinary in her own way. They speak candidly about their journey of self-discovery, self-acceptance, and the courage and confidence to be themselves, unapologetically.
Kicking off the series is Sandra Riley Tang — vocalist / keyboardist / percussionist of local band The Sam Willows.
I think that the #JourneyToMe is about standing for what you believe in. It doesn’t matter if people disagree with you. You fight for what you believe in, and you don’t stop until you make it happen. It’s an on-going process. You are your experiences, and you grow and learn every day as you gain new experiences.
I grew up a very ‘black-and-white’ world. Sometimes, I’d go as far as to completely adopt someone else’s mindset and opinions because I thought it was ‘the only right way’. I hated uncertainty. So, to me, everything needed to have an answer. But as I get older, I realise that life isn’t really just black or white. There are grey areas, uncertainties, that I’ve learned to accept and deal with.
I think learning to keep my mind open and learning to let go is one of my most important life lessons so far.
