A generously proportioned, fine and smooth textured cotton muslin scarf that doubles up as a turban, sling bag, wall hanging or sarong. This handwoven and hand-embroidered piece, designed in collaboration with New Delhi based designer Sonica Sarna, features what is considered the most artistic and finest Bengali craftsmanship - The Jamdani.
The Shunya motif uses the diamond shape to represent the partnership between the night and day, with the center-point represented as the dawn. This illustrates the metaphorical awakening or awareness that comes with the 'dawn' of all new understandings.
Finished with playful tassels along the edges. Dimensions are 190cm x 90cm.
Handwoven and hand-embroidered in Habibpur, India. In collaboration with designer, Sonica Kapur.
Shunya, which means zero but also origins, is an ode to the eternal traditions of textile, that resurrect again after centuries. It is used here as a motif in a metaphorical interpretation of the communion of Night and Day, through Dawn.
